Precision-microplastic reference materials
ExactMP™ is an original concept developed by Microplastic Solution to meet the need for precise microplastic reference materials.
ExactMP™ enables highly reproducible dosing of microplastic particles, minimizing variability between individual samples. This is achieved by dispersing microplastics in a pure, fully water-soluble Pullulan film derived from natural polysaccharides.
While embedded in the film, the microplastic particles remain fixed in position and homogeneously distributed, allowing the particles to be imaged, counted, and verified prior to use. Upon contact with water, the Pullulan matrix dissolves completely within less than an hour, releasing the microplastics without introducing interfering residues.

ExactMP™ Base kit [4 samples]
ExactMP™ is available in kits containing 4, 12, or 24 individual samples (i.e., the Base Kit, Standard Kit, and Extended Kit). These kits support a range of analytical applications including spike experiments, positive controls, method validation, repeatability assessments, and interlaboratory comparisons. Pricing varies depending on sample type and quantity, with bulk discounts available.
The Base Kit [4 samples] provides a convenient entry point for method checks and small-scale experiments. It can be used for spike recovery experiments, positive control analyses, or preliminary method validation using four replicates.

The Standard Kit [12 samples] enables more robust evaluation of analytical performance. It is well suited for repeatability assessments, spike recovery studies, and internal method validation through multiple analyses under consistent analytical conditions.

Compatibility with ISO and EU recovery verification
ISO 16094-2 and European Commision Directive (EU) 2020/2184
ExactMP™ is well suited for recovery experiments used in method validation and quality control. The European Commission directive (EU) 2020/2184 methodology recommends spike particles in the ranges 30–70 µm and 120–200 µm to verify recovery on the 20 µm and 100 µm filtration stages, while ISO 16094-2 requires laboratories to demonstrate reliable identification at their claimed minimum particle size within the microplastic range.
ExactMP™ is available within these relevant size ranges, and therefore, provide a practical tool for precisely quantifying recovery efficiency and verifying analytical performance under both frameworks.
An original concept
developed by Microplastic Solution
ExactMP™ is based on a novel concept developed within the four walls of Microplastic Solution: embedding microplastics in a thin pullulan film.
Pullulan, a water-soluble polysaccharide produced by Aureobasidium pullulans, is an ideal medium because it is perfectly transparent, allowing direct visualization and quantification of the embedded microplastics. In addition, pullulan is non-toxic, environmentally benign and widely used in food and pharmaceutical applications, making it safe to handle.
Once solidified, pullulan forms a mechanically stable and impact-resistant film that securely holds the particles in place during handling and transport.
Upon exposure to water, the pullulan film dissolves completely, leaving behind only the spiked microplastics.
We believe this concept provides a simple and reliable approach for delivering precise microplastic spikes while maintaining full control over particle number and composition.
